What we do

Three tracks, one philosophy

Whether you come to us as a creative writer, a college applicant, or as a student pursuing both, our approach is equally flexible and customized to accommodate you and the goals before you.

Some students come to Ellipsis with both a literary practice and a college application on the horizon — for many of these students, the two are inseparable. The poems they're writing for Scholastic are the same poems comprising the creative writing supplement they'll send to Yale. The novel they're drafting is the through-line of their personal statement or their "Why Major" supplemental essay.

For these students, we offer a coordinated, fully flexible track. Whether these students elect to work with one creative writing instructor who doubles as a college advisor or with a creative writing instructor and a college advisor, we ensure that you're set up to succeed as a creative writer in the college admissions process. As we navigate both submission deadlines and college application timelines, we ensure our students' stories — and writing credibility — holds up, even against the harsh threshold top schools possess.

Our hybrid students often emerge with national recognition and standout applications, through creative work that's pointed in one intentional, thematically-defined direction.

Working with one of our acclaimed instructors, students develop their voice through weekly one-on-one sessions governed by generative prompts and line-level revision. We instill the kind of editorial conversation and feedback we longed for as students ourselves, exposing students to a world of craft-based writing rarely available outside graduate workshops.

Beyond simply learning how to write better, Ellipsis creative writing students learn how to read like editors, navigate the contest and journal landscape, and approach the literary world as active participants. We help our students channel their interests in editorial and civic engagement through personalized career-focused recommendations that transcend the usual lineup of creative writing contests and publication outlets.

Many of our writers go on to publish in selective journals, win national awards, and sustain practices (and sometimes even long-term editorial engagements and initiatives!) that outlast their time at Ellipsis.

Explore creative writing

From the first conversation about a college list to the last round of supplement edits, our advisors work alongside students and families to build applications that read as authentically as they read ambitiously.

Ellipsis college advisors meet you where you are. That means we can focus on strategic decisions about Early Decision and Early Action, or focus on supplement essays if you've already locked in your strategy. We can pivot to prestigious scholarship and fellowship applications or focus on the Common App Personal Statement. For younger students, we even help surface extracurricular profiles that tell unified, distinctive stories rather than five disconnected ones.

Our advisors — former admissions officers and Ivy+ graduates who've spent years inside the rooms where these decisions are made — will work to create a flexible path forward through a process known for being grueling and uncertain. With Ellipsis, you'll tap into battle-tested college admissions expertise without the one-size-fits-all rotational tracks of legacy firms.

A Parent's Story

Peter stepped in right when we desperately needed help — and the transformation was incredible.

We found Peter during my daughter's sophomore year, when she loved writing but lacked confidence and wasn't sure she was even cut out for it. He is incredibly down-to-earth, deeply trustworthy, and has a warm presence that immediately makes you feel comfortable.

After she started working with him, her confidence in her poetry soared. She grew comfortable sharing her work and freely expressing herself. Under his guidance, she went on to win numerous awards, gained acceptance into all of her dream summer programs, and ultimately got into her dream college. Most importantly, Peter truly nurtured and deepened her lifelong love for writing.

Peter was there for us every step of the way — even during last-minute college essay crunches, jumping in to help no matter how late it was. It has been amazing to watch my daughter grow, find her voice, and achieve her dreams. We cannot thank Ellipsis enough.
