Avia Tadmor

Avia is the author of the forthcoming poetry collection Song in Tammuz (October 2026), winner of the Tupelo Press International Berkshire Prize. Her poems appear in The Academy of American Poets' Poem-a-Day, Best New Poets, New England Review, The New Republic, and elsewhere. Her writing has received fellowships and awards from Bread Loaf Writers' Workshop, the Rona Jaffe Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Yaddo. She was named a Gregory Djanikian Scholar in Poetry by the Adroit Journal and, most recently, a Get the Word Out Publicity Incubator Fellow from Poets & Writers.

Previously, Avia taught writing at Columbia University, where she co-directed the first-year writing courses in Medical Humanities and the Columbia Artist/Teachers program, promoting no-cost arts education in schools and community organizations in NYC. Currently, she is a Clinical Associate Professor at New York University, where she teaches writing and serves as a faculty mentor for the peer-based Writing Tutors Program.

A graduate of the United World College program — educating for constructive dialogue, peace, and a sustainable future — Avia is a trained conflict resolution facilitator. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Harvard University. Born in Jerusalem, she lives in New York.
