Mamie's latest collection, Midsummer Night's Toast, was selected by Natalie Shapero as the winner of The Hollis Summers Poetry Prize and published by Ohio University Press. Her first book, Everyone I've Danced With Is Dead, was published by JackLeg in 2024. She earned an MFA in Poetry from UNC Wilmington and a BA in Literature and Religious Studies from Wofford College. Her poems and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, Washington Square Review, Smartish Pace, Sixth Finch, Oxford American, Garden & Gun, Carolina Quarterly, Cimarron, and elsewhere.
For fifteen years, Mamie taught poetry at South Carolina's Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, where her students consistently earned top-tier recognition from the Adroit Prizes, the Bennington College Young Writers Awards, Hollins University's Nancy Thorp Prize, the Kenyon Review Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize, the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the National Student Poets Program, the U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts designation, the YoungArts Awards, and many more.
She lives in Edisto, South Carolina, with her husband and their pit bull, Wednesday Stewart.
