Our approach to creative writing instruction moves through craft, close-reading, cultural conversation, and revision.
We begin with a review of your work as it currently stands. As your instructor develops an understanding of strengths and areas of opportunity, we will explore personalized assignments.
Once we have identified and workshopped habits through close-reading of current work (and accompanying revisions), we will turn our attention to generating new work through personalized prompts, careful reading, disciplined drafting, and a nuanced approach to integrating craft.
Through it all, we’ll keep asking: What do you actually want to say? Why are you actually writing? The answers will become the foundation of the portfolio manuscript you will work toward assembling in the successive months and years.
Whether you’re a freshman or a fall-semester senior, our college advising approach begins with deconstruction.
There is rarely a true, conscious beginning to the college process. Before you can say “ready, set”, parents and students alike are already off to the races and waist-deep in worry.
At Ellipsis, our path begins with you (the student/applicant). We’ll spend our first session identifying what exactly differentiates you from the thousands of other smart, ambitious students out there in the world.
If you’re a freshman or sophomore, we’ll focus on guiding you through developing passion into tangible initiative, engagement, and service, while you further your knowledge and skills along the way. If you’re a junior or fall-semester senior, we’ll focus on sharpening and refining the story for colleges and scholarship organizations.
